Riddim and Roti: Blue Water

Blue Water Curry and Roti
1646 Victoria Park Ave
416-755-9649

Roti sampled: Chicken 4.5/5, Goat 4.5/5.
Price: 6.50 and 6.95, respectively.

This is a gem of a spot, which few people know about. Don't let the sketchy island vibe deter you; this place really knows their shit. Both rotis were packed to the gills with meat, potato, crushed chick peas, and a great deal of spice. You can get cheap beers here, too. Half-marks deducted because we've seen larger rotis at the same price point. Filling, none-the-less.

As the weekend approaches and the Throwed team is once again only half-employed (guess which half), we thought we'd drop two real heaters from one of our favourites, Aidonia, to get your (our) drinking faces on. Both high enough bitrates to play out in de dance, too.

Aidonia- Flyin' Dagger (160 kbps)
Aidonia- Guns Inna Funds (185 kbps)

Kanye West - Love Lockdown

Here it is, the much talked about new jam from Kanye West. As soon as word dropped about this track, I knew he'd be singing with an autotune on his voice (and I hear the whole album will be that way). Not a horrible song, but also not the quality that we've come to expect from Kanye. Who knows, this track could be a total grower, but at this point I just don't know.

Cam'ron - Bottom Of The Pussy Hole

Don't get mad at us. That's the name of the song...And it's pretty damn good. I love songs with emotional sweet crooning and really dirty lyrics i.e "I Hit the Bottom Of The Pussy Ya'll". Crime Pays should be solid.

New (MF) Doom album in a month!

There's been a ton of chatter happening on the web today concerning the announcement that there will be a new Doom (apparently he's dropped the MF, does that mean no more mask?). According to a Lex/Fontanna sales sheet that leaked, the album will be released on October 21st and features production by J Dilla and Dangermouse along with guest appearances by Raekwon and Ghostface (remember when they were supposed to make an album together?). Some great news for fans of this once highly prolific MC. Lets just hope this shit is real!

...and now some songs to remind you just how good Doom is:

Willy Northpole - Body Marked Up

Ths song is fairly old (at least in hop-hop years...or i suppose months), but i've been playing it on repeat today for some reason. Who knew they had gangstas in Phoenix?

Bonus:

Welcome To Arizona

Put you in a condo all the way up in Taronto...

Please let the T-Wayne album be real. This song is amazing.

Hiphopstramentals....Flying Lotus. J Rocc and Madlib.

It's been a while since I've really been feeling a hip hop instrumental album. A sub genre I once held very near to my heart (Deadringer, One Word Extinguisher, Donuts, Shades Of Blue and of course Endtroducing)
So when I stumbled upon Flying Lotus's Los Angeles a while back,I approached with a whole gang of skepticism. Let's be honest, albums of this sort can get downright tiresome at times. Fortunately I gave this one a few listens before i tossed it in the Boring-Ass-Redundant-Ass pile. Picture Prefuse 73 (minus the glitchiness) meets the best instrumental work by J Dilla and Madlib and you'll be pretty close to the sometimes ethereal, yet always bangin' sounds of Mr.Lotus. The album pretty much knocks from start to finish but here is one of my standouts called "Breathe. Something/Stellar STar" a track reminiscent of warped labelmate Prefuse 73's work on One Word Extinguisher.

Flying Lotus - Breathe. Something/Stellar STar

In other bangin' instrumental news, Madlib and J Rocc have just digitally released an album called Beat Konducta 5: Dil Cosby Suite, a dedication to J Dilla. Madlib making beats inspired by Dilla? How could this not be good?

Grand Design

Driving to work this morning, all the clouds were this luminescent blue colour. It was too fucking quiet, no breeze, and there wasn't a car on the road. Also, I was sober, which is kind of an event unto itself.

When I got to Eglinton and VP, there was what looked like a roadblock set up, with both civilian and police cars in the mix. About a half dozen people were all standing outside their cars, looking Southbound and pointing to something in the distance. I got to idle at a stoplight for a minute, so I took a look for myself. There was absolutely nothing there; just open road and silence.
All this occurred to the score of DJ Technics remix of Radiohead's "Everything in its Right Place," (@ 320 kpbs) which had come on at random.
I'm not a terribly religious person, but the synthesis of all these happenings really made me feel like I was witnessing some sort of divine architecture.

You got knocked the fuck out!

Did anyone catch this last night? Wow.Probably one of the best knockouts in UFC history.
